Art Education and Mural Project

Art education is very limited in rural Cambodia, with little opportunity to explore creativity in the form of fine arts. Their exposure to a range of artistic ideas is limited and primarily revolves around traditional Khmer paintings and sculpture. They also lack the finances to fund artistic workshops or projects.

Through art education we can bring new ideas and spark the childrens’ creativity. We envision classrooms and playgrounds that come to life with imagery and colour, inspiring children to explore their own imaginations, and reinforce the message that school should be a fun and engaging place to be.

If you are an artist and are interested in visiting the school to run workshops with the kids and create murals with them, please let us know.  As we are a charity organisation operating on very limited funds, we are looking for artists who can cover the costs of their own travel and supplies.

Visiting Artists

Sydney based artist and art educator, Anita Tesoriero spent two weeks at the school, running a drawing workshop with the kids. The children drew wonderful self portraits and very much enjoyed having the time to explore their creativity in the school environment.

Brooklyn based artist, Tom Gleisner, (assisted by Nic Lytle) painted a mural on the front of The Shintoshin School to launch our new Art Education and Mural Project. Gleisner also engaged the children to assist with some of the painting and it was a great opportunity for the kids to observe the process of creating a large scale artwork.

Other supporters

Georgina Schmidt raised $1000 to support our Art Program. The money was used to purchase supplies for painting classroom murals.
