Let’s Build a School has just returned from a two week visit to both our schools in Cambodia. Though the visit was short, we achieved many things, and we’re looking forward to expanding our programs and support in the community.
Some highlights include:
- Beginning to paint and re-concrete the classroom floors
- Visiting the GBA girls and purchasing new uniforms for 23 new GBA sponsored children
- Distributing donated toys, clothes, laptops and school supplies
- Checking in on the mentoring program at the Hironaka school and getting the program going at the Shintoshin school
- Following up on our health nurse program and expanding the program to include the local middle school and high school
- Testing the water at both schools in preparation for the installation of drinking water filters at both schools, and investigating the best site specific solutions for the projects
- Planning for a school garden program at the Shintoshin school
- Distributing solar lamps donated by Panosonic to individuals in the local community
- Supporting one of the GBA girls living in particularly extreme poverty to access academic support via tutoring, a bicycle for transport and a new battery powered lamp for her home so she can study at night – We will be launching a campaign to build her a new house in the upcoming months
