We had a long Skype chat today with teacher Alan. He said that the pilot mentoring program is going very well and the children are enjoying it.
Originally the children were going to meet once a week for tutoring sessions, but now they are meeting every school day. We didn’t ask this of the kids because we thought it would be too much, but it seems they have embraced the program with great enthusiasm.
Alan said that he really feels the program is helping some of the poorer children to succeed at school.
We believe this success is due to the hard work and dedication of Alan, and the children are so lucky to have him! Thank you, Alan!
We would also like to congratulate the mentors and mentees for all their efforts to improve education in their own community. They are all part of a program that promotes self-sufiiciency and empowers young people to improve their lives.
Not only are Alan and the mentors working so hard throughout the week, but they give up their own time on Sunday afternoons to meet and plan for the week ahead.
Our hope is that this program will grow beyond a pilot program later in 2014 and will soon include many more children as both mentors and mentees.
