The Panasonic Corporation in Phnom Penh donated 100 solar lights to World Assistance for Cambodia to distribute in areas without electricity. The Shintoshin School and the surrounding village do not have any access to electricity (though we feel hopeful with lines being laid nearby). The Shintoshin director, our Engligh/computer teacher, and one of the Girls Be Ambitious sponsored children, all received a solar light. The lights will make a huge difference to the director’s and our teacher’s ability to plan lessons and get work done in the evenings, and Chanra is looking forward to taking advantage of the extra light to catch up on work she missed while she was receiving medical treatment in Phnom Penh (LBS covered transportation and lost wages for the family). If anyone knows where we can get access to more donated solar lights, we’d love to hear from you.
