Let’s Build a School supports English, computer and library classes at Rik Reay Primary School in the Preah Vihear Province of Cambodia.

Having our teachers at the schools provides the opportunity for the children to learn to speak English and basic computer skills; both essential skills for Cambodians seeking higher education and professional employment. Acquiring these skills connects them to a global community full of opportunities for education and communication.

Let’s Build a School provides three full time teacher salaries, computer equipment (desktops, laptops and XOs), headphones, speakers, digital projectors, electricity, internet access, classroom teaching/art/music supplies, and whiteboards. We also support teacher training by funding opportunities to study at Australian Centre for English (ACE) in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap during the annual school break from August through October.

Our teachers oversee and direct all of our school based programs and projects, as well as liaising with the wider community to ensure high standards of quality can be achieved. They are the heart and soul of all that we do at the school. We’re so grateful for all the time, energy and creativity they put into helping the kids build better futures.

OUR TEACHERS

L to R: Sarom, Chan and Soknouv

Thuon Sarom (Rom) began teaching English and computers at the school in November 2016. He is now our full time English teacher but his love and talent for music and singing has led to him also incorporating music lessons where the kids learn new songs in both English and computers. He is our unofficial choir director. Watch out Cambodia’s Got Talent!

Chanpst Norng (Chan) began as our dedicated English teacher in May 2017, after volunteering in our library on Friday afternoons. He is now teaching our computer/technology classes. Before teaching he was working as a leader at the nearby Jombok Hoas Adventure Learning Centre. Chan loves playing games with the kids and keeping the school environment fun and full of life.

Thoem Soknouv (Nouv) has been with us since February 2018, and recently completed a degree in Mathematics. He is now our librarian, who is passionate about music and art, spending time developing creative programs in addition to building a wonderful library program for all the kids at the school.

DONATE COMPUTERS – We are often looking for second -hand or new computer equipment to add to our classrooms, as well as classroom supplies, such as pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and so on. If you would like to donate supplies, please contact us.

Special thanks to SCEGGS Darlinghurst for their recent donation of 20 laptop computers, and to Terry Gillett who has organised tens of XO computers for the classroom from various sources.

SPONSORSHIP – We are always looking for more sponsors so we can improve and expand all our programs at the school. In particular, we are looking for ongoing sponsors to cover the cost of our teachers’ salaries. Please contact us if you are interested.
