The LBS Mentoring Program is going strong, with a two day leadership training course at Jombok Hoas for the mentors and teachers. Thanks to Jombok Hoas for the generous support for our program by providing a significant discount so local children and staff can have such a unique and valuable learning experience.

The program includes twenty five mentoring pairs. The feedback from the students and teachers involved has been very positive. We are hoping to continue to expand this program as the school communities have really felt there is great benefit for the children.

The mentoring program is based on the concept of older, academically successful children mentoring and tutoring younger children who are struggling with basic skills in the Khmer language and maths.

We also believe that strong leadership is essential for growth and prosperity in any community, so LBS is committed to nurturing young leaders through education and training. Watch this space, as we hope to build this program into the future.

Mentors are selected based on academic achievement and are recognised as having leadership qualities. The program provides both mentors and mentees with teaching tools and workbooks to guide them in weekly tutoring sessions.

Our hope is that the program will encourage and support children from poor, and often illiterate, families to attend school and learn reading and writing with basic arithmetic. So many children from poor families do not attend school regularly and when they do they can be highly disadvantaged with no academic support at home.

The program aims to support the mentors and offer them new skills in teaching and leadership within their community, while encouraging a sense of pride in helping their own school community to reach higher academic standards for all students.
